Spring Intensive

Registration is now open for the 2nd Spring Intensive!

Our 2011 Spring Intensive was so successful, we decided to do it again in 2012 with even more opportunities to learn about the publishing industry and pitch your book! Or yourself!

Posted below, is a tentative schedule of workshops and events planned for the weekend with more to come as we receive confirmations.

This is like few conferences – we keep the attendance low (no more than 150 attendees) to allow for more personal contact and we don’t do all the extra things like goody bags and gift baskets to further keep the cost for this great weekend low. Think of this as a weekend to spend immersed in the publishing world.  Plus the food and desserts are fantastic!

Please email president@rosecityromancewriters.com if you have questions.

Speed Dating Pitching: What's it all About?

A special event where writers can meet, pitch, interview and network with agents and editors. Each attendee who registers for this will receive three red tickets. On Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., participants will line up outside of the room. Agents and editors will be seated in alphabetical order at tables.

At the beginning of the event (@ 9:00 a.m.), a certain number of participants will be allowed into the room, and will go to a table and start their FIVE MINUTE pitches. You must convey the essence of your book quickly (we suggest using 25 words or less), allowing a response from the agent within your five allotted minutes. We suggest you use about three minutes to pitch your book, and allow two minutes to listen to the editor/agent.

At the end of five minutes, when the bell rings, please give one of your tickets to the agent/editor and yield your chair to the person in line behind you. You may move on to the next agent or editor. When you have used your first three tickets, you will exit the room. We will have a person outside the exit who will give you three more tickets. You may then get in line to return to the room, and go back as many times as possible until the end of the session.

There is no charge for the speed dating pitching session. Even if you don’t want to pitch but have a question or just want to make sure you meet the editor/agent, feel free to participate. The intention is to make editors and agents as accessible as possible.
